Hellenic Operational Research Society (HELORS) HELORS, the Hellenic Operational Research Society, was founded in 1963. During these years, our society presents a wide range of activities. Among them, HELORS publishes in collaboration with Springer, the scientific journal ‘Operational Research’ with IF 2022: 2,7. For better organization and efficiency, the HELORS has established since 1984 the Macedonia-Thrace annex, aiming primarily at the growth of Operational Research in the greater area of Balkans. The branch has its headquarters in Thessaloniki and has contributed to the organization of the Balkan Conferences, six of which it has organized in Thessaloniki with the participation of researchers from the Balkan countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Serbia, North Macedonia, Romania, Turkey, etc.). The following working groups (Multicriteria Decision Analysis, Decision Support Systems, Energy Policy, and Operational Research) have been created and operate at HELORS. The HELORS has decided to establish since 1999 the award “Gold Medal of Operational Research” to distinguished Greek scientists who have made important advances in Operations Research. Some of the professors who have been awarded with ‘Gold Medals Operational Research’ are D. Bertsekas, P. Pardalos, D. Bertsimas, Y. Siskos, C. Zopounidis, N. Sahinidis, J. Tsitsiklis, Chr. Papadimitriou, … HELORS has organized in various Greek cities, thirty-one (31) National Conferences of which the last nine (9) are international conferences, six (6) Balkan Conference on Operational Research (BALCOR). It has also organized the 12th International Conference on Operational Research of IFORS in Athens (June 1990), the European Conference EURO XX in Rhodes (July 2004), and the European Conference EURO XXXI in Athens (July 2021) in a hybrid format
